Following a Trader

Learn how to subscribe to a master trader and set up copy trading on your account.

Prerequisites

Before following a trader, ensure you have:

  • Active TradeStaq account
  • At least one connected exchange (paper or live)
  • Available bot slot for your tier
  • Pro tier or above (for live copy trading)

Step 1: Select a Master

From the marketplace:

  1. Browse or search for traders
  2. Evaluate their performance metrics
  3. Click on a master card for details
  4. Click Follow Strategy button

Step 2: Choose Exchange

Select which exchange will execute copied trades.

Exchange Options

Exchange TypeDescriptionRecommendation
PaperVirtual funds, no real tradingTesting, beginners
LiveReal money on your exchangeAfter paper testing

Exchange Requirements

  • Exchange must be Active status
  • Sufficient balance for trading
  • Matching market type (spot/futures)

Note: We strongly recommend starting with paper trading to test the master's signals before using real funds.

Selection

  1. View your available exchanges
  2. Check balance and status
  3. Click to select
  4. Click Next

Step 3: Configure Position Sizing

Set how your positions will be sized relative to the master.

Size Multiplier

The multiplier scales the master's position size:

MultiplierMaster Trades $1,000You Trade
0.1x$1,000$100
0.5x$1,000$500
1.0x$1,000$1,000
2.0x$1,000$2,000
5.0x$1,000$5,000

Choosing Your Multiplier

Conservative (0.1x - 0.5x):

  • Lower risk
  • Smaller positions
  • Good for testing

Standard (1.0x):

  • Match master's sizing
  • Proportional results

Aggressive (2.0x - 5.0x):

  • Amplified positions
  • Higher risk and reward
  • Only for experienced traders

Note: Higher multipliers amplify both gains AND losses. Use with caution.

Position Limits

You can also set maximum position limits:

SettingDescription
Max Position SizeMaximum USD value per trade
Max % of BalanceMaximum percentage of balance per trade

Configuration

  1. Set your size multiplier
  2. Configure position limits (optional)
  3. Click Next

Stop Loss Override

Add your own stop loss on top of master's:

  • Use Master's SL - Copy master's stop loss exactly
  • Custom SL - Set your own stop loss percentage
  • Tighter SL - Use whichever is tighter

Take Profit Override

Similar options for take profit:

  • Use Master's TP - Copy master's take profit
  • Custom TP - Set your own take profit
  • Earlier TP - Use whichever triggers first

Leverage (Futures)

For futures copy trading:

CustomSet your own leverage
LowerUse lower of master's or your setting

Note: Lower leverage reduces liquidation risk but also reduces position size.

  2. Start small - Use low multiplier initially
  3. Single master - Follow one master until comfortable
  4. Monitor daily - Check positions and performance

Ongoing Management

  1. Regular reviews - Weekly performance check
  2. Adjust sizing - Based on results
  3. Diversify - Consider multiple masters
  4. Stay informed - Watch for master announcements

Risk Management

  1. Set max position sizes - Limit exposure
  2. Use stop losses - Add your own if needed
  3. Don't over-leverage - Match your risk tolerance
  4. Keep reserves - Don't allocate 100% to copying
