Connecting Hyperliquid

This guide walks you through connecting your Hyperliquid account to TradeStaq for decentralized perpetual futures trading.

What is Hyperliquid?

Hyperliquid is a decentralized perpetual futures exchange (DEX) built on its own L1 blockchain. Unlike centralized exchanges:

  • No KYC required - Trade with just a wallet
  • On-chain settlement - Full transparency
  • Native USDC - Collateral in USDC
  • High performance - CEX-like speed and UX

Note: Hyperliquid uses wallet addresses and private keys instead of traditional API keys.

Prerequisites

Before connecting Hyperliquid:

  • An EVM-compatible wallet (MetaMask, Ledger, etc.)
  • USDC deposited on Hyperliquid (Arbitrum bridge)
  • Your wallet's private key (for trading)
  • Basic understanding of DeFi and wallet security

Security Warning: You'll need to provide your private key to TradeStaq. Only use a dedicated trading wallet, never your main wallet.

Setting Up Your Hyperliquid Wallet

Option 1: Create a New Wallet (Recommended)

Create a dedicated trading wallet for TradeStaq:

  1. Generate a new wallet:

    • Use MetaMask: Create a new account
    • Use Rabby/Frame: Create a new wallet
    • Or generate via ethers.js/web3
  2. Fund the wallet:

    • Bridge USDC from Arbitrum to Hyperliquid
    • Use the official Hyperliquid Bridge
    • Minimum: ~$100 USDC for testing
  3. Export private key:

    • MetaMask: Account Details → Export Private Key
    • Never share this key with anyone except TradeStaq

Option 2: Use Existing Wallet

If using an existing Hyperliquid wallet:

  1. Go to app.hyperliquid.xyz
  2. Connect your wallet
  3. Ensure you have USDC balance
  4. Export your private key (see above)

Best Practice: Always use a separate wallet for automated trading, not your main holdings wallet.

Getting Your Credentials

You need two pieces of information:

1. Wallet Address

Your Ethereum-format address:

0x1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef12345678

Find it in:

  • MetaMask: Click to copy address
  • Hyperliquid app: Top-right corner

2. Private Key

Your wallet's private key (64 hex characters):

0xabcdef1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef1234567890

Critical Security:

  • Never share your private key publicly
  • Store it in a password manager
  • Consider this wallet "hot" (always online)
  • Only fund it with amounts you're comfortable trading

3. Account Address (Required)

The account you want to trade on:

  • For personal trading: Use your wallet address (same as step 1)
  • For vault trading: Use your vault address (different from your wallet)

Security Considerations

Private Key Safety

Since you're providing a private key:

  1. Use a dedicated wallet - Never your main wallet
  2. Limit funds - Only keep trading capital
  3. Monitor regularly - Check wallet activity
  4. Rotate if compromised - Create new wallet if suspicious
  5. Hardware wallet - Consider for larger amounts

TradeStaq Storage

How TradeStaq handles your private key:

  • Encrypted at rest in database
  • Never logged or exposed in API responses
  • Used only for signing transactions
  • Follows industry-standard key management

Backup Strategy

  1. Save private key in password manager
  2. Store wallet address separately
  3. Keep transaction history
  4. Document any vault addresses

Troubleshooting

"Invalid Private Key" Error

Solutions:

  • Ensure private key starts with 0x
  • Check for extra spaces or characters
  • Verify it's 64 hex characters (+ 0x prefix)
  • Try exporting key again from wallet

Balance Shows $0

Possible causes:

  • Funds on Arbitrum, not Hyperliquid L1
  • Need to bridge USDC to Hyperliquid
  • Wrong wallet address entered

Solutions:

  1. Check balance on app.hyperliquid.xyz
  2. Bridge USDC using official bridge
  3. Verify wallet address matches

Connection Timeout

Solutions:

  • Hyperliquid RPC may be congested
  • Try syncing again in a few minutes
  • Check Hyperliquid status page

Trades Not Executing

Check:

  • Sufficient USDC collateral
  • Leverage not exceeding limits
  • Position size meets minimums
  • Network not congested

Advanced: Vault Trading

What are Vaults?

Hyperliquid Vaults are:

  • Smart contracts for delegated trading
  • You deposit, vault leader trades
  • Profit sharing model
  • On-chain transparency

Using Vaults with TradeStaq

  1. Create/join a vault on Hyperliquid
  2. Note your vault address
  3. Enter vault address in TradeStaq setup
  4. TradeStaq will trade via the vault

Advantages of Hyperliquid

For Traders

  • ✅ No KYC/AML requirements
  • ✅ Full custody of funds
  • ✅ Transparent on-chain
  • ✅ Competitive fees
